Every new year, most of us come up with resolutions that we give up on almost instantly. It is important to take small steps to avoid losing your motivation. When we lose our motivation, we stop working towards our goals – that is why our resolutions should become lifestyle changes instead. Here are a few ways to start 2021 off right.

Motivate Yourself to Get Healthy

The goal of healthier eating and drinking is not throwing out all the foods and drinks you love, just consume less of them. You can still have your cheat days but try to incorporate more vegetables, fruits, and whole grains into your diet. You can even prepare your foods in a different and healthier ways by air frying, grilling, or roasting. Make sure you are staying hydrated throughout the day by drinking more water. Drink less juice, sodas, and other sugary drinks.

If you are planning to start exercising, start off slowly. We recommend that you take our cardio kickboxing or martial arts classes as a fun way to get healthy. Taking our classes at least 2-3 times a week is how you will get the best results, but we encourage you to listen to your body and attend however much is right for you. For the days you do not feel like going to the gym, work out or do yoga at home, go to the park, or walk your dog. It is easy to view working out as a punishment but look at it as a way to relieve stress and increase your energy. If you stick to small changes, it will be much easier to stay motivated.

Maintain Discipline

You need discipline to achieve your goals of eating better and working out. It may seem difficult to meet your goals, but you have to put in the work to see your goals come to life. Do not give yourself a choice to stray off path. It is not possible to stay motivated 24/7 but a healthier lifestyle will have to become a way of life. Your goal(s) should not be viewed as a short-term change – these need to be long-term habits that you are creating for the rest of your life. You want to be healthy for the rest of your life, not just for the next few months.

Stay Focused

To stay focused, your goals must be realistic. If they aren’t you will immediately talk yourself out of them. We meet our goals through patience, hard work, focus, and determination over a long period of time. Change one small thing at a time and you will see big results in the long run. Do not let the way you look be the sole focus for making these changes – working towards better health is much more motivating.
